Locked Out of Brivo Access? How to Reset Your Password or Unblock Your Login
You tried to log in to Brivo Access and got an error. Maybe a door needs to open today, or someone needs to come off the list. Most lockouts take a few minutes to fix, as long as the email address on the account is one you can still read.
Go to access.brivo.com and read the exact error message. "Invalid email and/or password" usually means a wrong email or password, so click Forgot Password? and reset it. "This login was blocked" means 10 failed attempts, so use the "Account blocked" email or reset your password, which also unblocks the login. "SSO authentication is required" means your company uses single sign-on, so use the Log In with SSO button. If the email address on the account is gone, stop and call us before you try anything else.
What you need
- Access to the email inbox for the address on your Brivo Access account. The reset message goes there.
- A few minutes. Brivo's reset flow is email based.
- If your company uses single sign-on (SSO), the way to reach your company's own sign-in.
Match the error to the fix
Find your message in the list, then follow the fix. These are the common messages on Brivo's login troubleshooting page:
- "Invalid email and/or password." Check the email address first. If it's right, the password is wrong. Reset it (steps below).
- "This login was blocked..." Blocked after 10 unsuccessful attempts. Use the unblock steps below.
- "Your email has not been verified." Finish the verification step Brivo sent to your inbox. Brivo has a separate article, Verifying Your Administrator Email, if you need a new link.
- "SSO authentication is required." Your organization uses single sign-on. Use the Log In with SSO button on the main page.
- "Administrator has been migrated..." You've been moved to Brivo's updated sign-in. Bookmark access.brivo.com and use it from now on.
- "Please try to refresh the page..." A temporary error. Try the General troubleshooting steps below.

Reset your password
- Go to the Brivo Access login page at access.brivo.com.
- Click Forgot Password?
- Enter your email address and click Send.
- Check your email for a message from Brivo with the subject "Reset your Password." If your email address is on a Brivo Access account, that message is sent.
- Click the Confirm button in the email.
- On the New Password page, choose a password with at least 8 characters, including lowercase letters, uppercase letters and numbers.
- Type it again in the second field and click Submit.
- Log in with your email address and the new password.
Brivo notes that password changes and rotations are typically at the discretion of the local System Administrator. If you aren't sure who that is at your company, ask before you reset.
Unblock your login
Brivo blocks a login automatically after 10 unsuccessful attempts. There are two ways back in.
Option 1: use the unblock email.
- Look for an email from Brivo with the subject "Account blocked."
- Open it and click the Unblock button.
- When you see the confirmation message, go to access.brivo.com and sign in with your email and password.
Option 2: reset your password. If you can't find the "Account blocked" email, or you've forgotten your password, a password reset also unblocks the account. Use the reset steps above.
Can't find either email? Check your spam or junk folder. Brivo also suggests asking your IT team to allow emails from @brivo.com.
If your company uses single sign-on
Brivo says that if your account uses SSO, you reset your password through your company's own identity provider (Okta or Microsoft Entra ID, for example), not through Brivo. Your administrator provides a unique login address for SSO, which looks like access.brivo.com/sso/yourcompany. If you don't know whether you use SSO, ask whoever manages your company's IT.
Lost or replaced the phone you use for MFA?
If your account uses multi-factor authentication (MFA), Brivo asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app after your password. If that phone is lost or replaced, Brivo describes two ways back in.
- You saved your recovery code. Log in with your email and password. When Brivo asks for the 6-digit code, click "Lost your device? Use recovery code," enter the code and click Login. Brivo then shows a new recovery code. Save it, click "I have safely recorded this code" and click Continue. The old code no longer works.
- You don't have the recovery code. Another administrator can reset your MFA. Brivo says they need the View administrators and Edit administrator profiles permissions. They open Settings, then Administrators, select you, click Reset Multi-factor Authentication and click Continue. You will be asked to set up MFA again the next time you log in.
This is one more reason to keep at least two administrators on the account.
If no other administrator can reset it, call us at (855) 440-5353 before you try anything else.
General troubleshooting
For a technical error that isn't in the list, Brivo says to try these in order:
- Refresh your browser.
- Close all windows of the browser and go back to access.brivo.com.
- Make sure the browser is up to date.
- Clear the browser's cache and cookies.
What the vendor guide skips
Brivo's pages explain the buttons. They assume you still have the email address on the account. In a real building, that's often the problem.
- The reset email goes to the address on the account. If that address belonged to a manager who left, or an installer who no longer answers, the email won't reach you. Don't keep trying passwords, because 10 failed attempts blocks the login.
- Ask another administrator on your account whether they can help. Brivo's FAQ says people without administrator rights should contact their building manager or security administrator.
- Brivo's 24/7 phone line is for administrators and resellers. If you manage the building but you aren't the administrator on the account, Brivo points you to your own administrator first.
- A user's door access and an administrator's software login are separate. A person can lose one and keep the other. When someone leaves, check both.
- Write down who your administrators are, and keep at least two. Use shared mailboxes for company contacts, not one person's inbox.
- Keep passwords out of spreadsheets, shared notes and emails. Use a password manager.
Our guide to who has access to your building covers how to check who can reach what.
